Will Bigger Tires Fit?

About this calculator

Will Bigger Tires Fit? is a free tool that answers a common question for truck, SUV and car owners in simple terms.

What it does

You enter your current tire size and the size you're thinking about. It shows how much taller and wider the new tire is, whether a change that size usually fits, and how far off your speedometer will be.

How the math works

  • Height. For a size like 265/70R17, the sidewall is 265 mm × 70% = 185.5 mm. The overall height is the 17-inch wheel plus two sidewalls: 31.6 inches.
  • Fit. We compare heights against the tire industry's long-standing guideline of staying within 3% of the original height. Bigger changes are common on trucks but usually need a leveling kit or lift.
  • Speedometer. Your real speed changes by the same percentage as the tire's height.

What it doesn't do

It can't see your vehicle, wheels or suspension, so it can't promise a tire won't rub. Real tires also vary a little between brands. A tire shop can confirm fitment before you buy.
